Introduction
Growing up, I was always fascinated by all of the Anne of Green Gables books by L.M. Montgomery. I loved Anne and her feisty, imaginative personality and all of the antics she got into. Although I know there are many original book cover designs for this story, I wanted to create a more bright, simplified and modern version of my own.
I started with this sketch done in Procreate. I really wanted to focus on Anne finding herself in a lush, green, colorful new world. In my head, these bright colors and nature-y aesthetic are how Anne sees the world in her own spirited, imaginative way.
I wanted to keep the colors for this project earthy and warm. The colors from the background and flowers were used for Anne’s face, hair, and dress.
Illustrating and Color Palette
I also designed a seamless back cover and spine for the book. For the back cover, I included a very short synopsis to draw readers in.
